Garbage Disposal Removal

Removal of garbage disposal is one of the easiest things and everyone with the very basic plumbing and electricity skills and standard tools such as standard screwdriver and perhaps a pipe wrench can do it. If you do it properly from the beginning you can remove your garbage disposal within an hour.

It is highly important you turn off the electrical power at the electrical service panel as well as to shut off the water before starting the removal of your garbage unit. You are also recommended to remove everything of the cabinet under the sink and to place a bucket or an old towel to catch the water which will fall from the drain. When you make sure the power is off start disconnecting the plumbing from the bottom of the unit. Then disconnect the dishwasher drain line and you can start with the removal of the main unit. Be careful while removing the disposal unit and prepare to catch it. If you are replacing the entire system all that is left to do is unscrewing the mounting assembly and you are finished.

To repair garbage disposal you do not need to remove the mounting assembly. To reinstall the disposal unit start vice versa you removed it. If installing new garbage disposal you need to start at the mounting assembly and continue according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
