Garbage Disposal Repair
A modern kitchen has become unimaginable without a garbage disposal, the device under the kitchen sink which removes all the undesired food waste from the kitchens making clean up a lot easier. On the other hand, kitchen disposal often cause various problems for one or the other reason, while constant repairs are not inexpensive. Luckily, most of the garbage disposal problems are minor and can be easily repaired on your own.
When and if you are repairing your garbage disposal on your own you need to follow two rules:
- never put your hand in the hopper
- always turn off the power to the garbage disposal at the electrical service panel before starting any repairs There are a lot of reasons why your garbage disposal is not functioning, making extreme noise, humming or excessively vibrating but most commonly your disposal unit is not functioning properly because the flywheel is jammed. Fortunately, it can be repaired very easily on your own. Insert the garbage disposal wrench which came with your disposal unit and insert it into the flywheel hole in the bottom of the garbage disposal. Turn the wrench clockwise and counterclockwise few times until the you feel the flywheel turns freely. Turn back the power on at the electrical service panel, turn on the disposal unit and run some tap water. If disposal unit still does not work turn the reset button - the red button at the very center of the unit and your garbage disposal is repaired.
