Garbage Disposal Clog
Garbage disposal clog is one of the most frequent causes of your disposal unit not working, draining too slow or making a humming sound. However, it is also one of those garbage disposal problems you can easily repair on your own.
Garbage disposal clog is most often caused by inadequate water used while grinding, grinding large amounts of starchy material such as rice and potato peels, grinding celery and coffee grounds, etc. However, to remove the garbage disposal clog you do not need to call your plumber. The first and the most important thing you need to do when repairing garbage disposal clog on your own is to turn off the power to the disposal unit at the electrical service panel. Then take the wretch which comes with every disposal unit or buy one at the hardware store or online and always keep it under the sink. Insert the wrench into the flywheel hole at the bottom of your disposal unit and turn it clockwise and counterclockwise several times until the flywheel loosens up. Then turn the power back on, press the reset button - the red button at the bottom of your disposal unit, run some tap water into the disposal and garbage disposal clog is repaired. If your disposal still does not work you have got a more serious problem than the clog.
